Where do unspoken thoughts, unrealized ideas and
suspended reveries go? Can they leave traces in the
physical world?
In "Under What Tree Did Goethe Sleep?" a mysterious
manuscript (written in the 19th century by the pseudo-
literate and scientist Johann Friedrich von W.)
reveals the theory of an intermediate reality, suspended
between imagination and science, where the ideas of all
the literary authors and scientists who lived in the
university town of Göttingen become tangible entities,
visible through a secret invention.
This project is also the journey of the photographer, a
literature student, who, inspired by the manuscript,
explores Göttingen with his camera in search of this
hidden reality and makes a series of encounters with
people who guide him on this journey.
The project is destined to become a published book, with texts,
photos and old documents, and also a booklet with the
manuscript containing the theory and the mysterious invention.
