Ugo Milano was born in Rome. In his childhood he has been into drawing and reading, then into writing (poetry) and music in his teenage years: he studied Foreign Literature (English and German) bachelor and master's degrees, at the University of Naples Federico II and later at the Georg- August University of Göttingen. His approach to photography comes from poetry, his other big passion. A great reader of photo books, he would like to produce his own, combining text and photos (and other material) in them. In 2019 he was appointed Talent scout by the FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations). In 2023/2024 he attended the Jack London School of Photography and Literature, after winning a scholarship provided by the school itself. In 2024/2025 he attended the online Documentary Lab by Caimi & Picinni, working on the photo project “Under Which Tree Did Goethe Sleep?”, that became a dummy book in May 2025. In July 2025 he won scholarship for a photography masterclass/residency in Casentino with Simone Donati, accomplished in September 2025: during this residency, he developed the project "Creatura D'Arno", that will be exhibited in the Italian Photo Festival in Bibbiena in 2026.
He's also working on a research idea for a phd combining literature and photography.

For the past year and a half, he has been teaching one-to-one photography courses in Göttingen and Naples, and for several months he has also been teaching photography workshops for groups.
