Street Photography Workshop - KAZ Göttingen
Learn to see the everyday differently, photograph with intention, and develop your own visual language.
KAZ Göttingen · English/German-language workshop
Learn to see the city differently!
Street photography begins before you press the shutter.
In this hands-on workshop, we will explore how to observe urban life, recognise photographic possibilities and turn fleeting moments into meaningful images.
Through a combination of short discussions, examples from photography books, practical exercises and guided walks through Göttingen, we will work on the elements that make a photograph:
observation · timing · light · colour · composition · layering · storytelling
The aim is t to become more aware of your own way of seeing.
From observation to your own photographs
The workshop is built around practice.
We will spend time photographing in the streets of Göttingen, experimenting with different ways of approaching everyday situations and discussing what makes an image work.
We will explore both candid street photography and street portraiture with consent — including how to approach people, communicate respectfully, deal with rejection and remain attentive to the situation around you.
You will receive guidance throughout the shooting process, with particular attention to:
Timing
Learning to recognise and anticipate fleeting moments.
Composition
Using space, geometry, colour, light and layers to build stronger images.
Observation
Finding photographs in ordinary situations rather than waiting for extraordinary ones.
Interaction
Approaching people respectfully when photographing with consent.
Digital Zine — included
As part of the workshop, we will take the process one step further.
Selected photographs from the participants will come together in a collective digital zine, curated by me.
The zine will be produced as an A5 PDF and shared digitally with all participants via link/QR.
No additional material costs.
This gives the workshop a concrete outcome beyond the individual shooting sessions: the photographs become part of a shared visual publication.

About the instructor
Ugo Milano
Ugo Milano (b. 1992, Rome) is a photographer and visual researcher whose practice moves between documentary, literary and research-based approaches. He studied Foreign Literature, English and German, at the University of Naples Federico II and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
His photographic work explores the relationship between places, stories, memory and ways of seeing, with a particular interest in how the extraordinary can emerge from everyday life. His background in literature strongly informs his approach to photography and visual storytelling. He has explored street photograpy for 8 years before dedicating himself to a more lyrical documentary approach.
Since 2019, his work has been recognised through opportunities including the FIAF Talent Scout selection, the Canon Student Development Program, and a scholarship at the Jack London School of Photography and Literature. His projects have been exhibited and published in Italy and internationally.
Alongside his personal photographic practice, Ugo has several years of experience teaching photography through workshops, on platforms like Superprof.de, GetYourGuide, Airbnb, including street photography workshops in Naples, where participants work on observation, shooting, editing and the development of their own photographic projects.
Having studied and lived in Göttingen, he is now returning to the city to lead this workshop at KAZ.
